Kick Butt Coffee

Last night, after our somewhat hollow show at the Art 6 Coffee House in Denton, TX, we hauled it on down to Austin for sleepovers, exploration, and a potential chance at a last minute show or two at America's Live Music Capital. We took to calling any connection or person with an extra space for us to crawl into around 9pm.

After stopping in Waco for a few minutes, the game plan went as follows:
1. Dylan, Santi, and Kristin take one van and stay at Dylan's friend Bennett's house in North Austin.
2. Jemila, Te'Jah, and I take the other van and stay with Jemila's friend Katie at the University of Texas.
3. Bill, Claudia, and Chaz decided to hang out in the RV and sleep for a little bit and would meet up with Bill's cousin later that day.

After much scrambling and confusion, we all met back up for dinner at a place called Hula Hut, on the lake in Austin. The place consisted of a multitude of palm trees, Hawaiian paraphernalia, and extremely smiley, sunkissed faces of servers.

Thanks to Jemila's friend Katie (and connections in general), we arranged a last minute show at this venue called Kick Butt Coffee, sponsored by On The Real Magazine. We quickly ordered dinner, ate at the speed of light, and headed to the gig. The guy running the show was named William T. The over-zealous MC had been waiting in the front of the venue for us to come in. Apparently, we were super early for the gig. But, honestly, I'd rather have had early than super late. It's "professional," said William.

The crowd seemed ready to holler and shout by the time we were set up to play. The place wasn't too big, but held a good 40-50 people without completely losing hope of personal space and sanity. Our first tune, "Shake Your Body," by the Jackson 5 (during their late era of wanting to merely be called the "Jacksons") got everyone pumped and hungry for more China Fox. After every song, everyone in the place kept yelling various shouts of, "ONE MORE!"

It was the gig we really needed. Afterwards, everyone wanted to take a picture with us, visit, and get our contact information. William T. found it hard to stop hugging us and saying,"Y'all did y'all's thang."

Overall, a great night.

Dallas.

DFW, Tejas.

At the early hour of 8 am yesterday, wee leetle foxes rubbed our sleepy eyes and aimlessly wandered about the D'Aubin house in search of breakfast food, coffee, and some sort of sanity. After which, we began packing up suitcases, folding blankets, and restoring the house to its somewhat normal state of but a mere five to six high school boys running around, wreaking havoc.

Sebastian volunteered to drive the equipment van with myself in the passenger's seat. "We be drivin'!" is all we could exclaim for the next half hour or so.

Once on the road, our two vans full of sleepy, wandering eyes witnessed a number of hills and trees along the winding highway through Northwest Arkansas, heading west through Oklahoma.

Destination: Dallas, Texas.

Sebastian and I exchanged many ideas and theories regarding love, music, and relationships in general. I've always loved one-on-one time with members of the band. He inquired about my musical inspiration, aspirations, and specific meanings of songs I'd composed. It was refreshing to talk about music without dropping names or feeling the need to prove myself as most situations will call for at the prestigious Berklee.

Once in Dallas, we decided to visit the venue we would play, "Opening Bell" coffee. It was a nice place, half bar, half coffee shop with a little stage and a multitude of posters, portraits, and novelties only found in southern coffee shops.

The show was pretty fun last night. Opening for us was a duo from southern California called "I Hate You Just Kidding," who played mostly Indie/Folk with banjo, tambourine, acoustic guitar and the whole bit.
We tried out different quirky stage techniques during our set and cool harmonies for a minute since we were given a lot of freedom. After the show, we wanted to try and sneak in at this bar for an open mic, but the bill was full once we got there. Glad we tried.

Another show tonight at Art 6 Coffee House in Denton, TX tonight from 9-11. Pictures soon to come.

To whoever's been reading this: thank you. You are greatly appreciated in our eyes.

More to come.

Chill.

--Sunday 8/14/2011--

Today, the foxes have been given a blessed resting day and are lounging about the ever-so-generous D'Aubin household. The bulk of the band on our Macbook Pros, we could easily become a commercial for Steve Jobs. Thanks, Berklee.

We are planning on dinner at Sushi King, one of the best sushi joints ever, and will probably be a handful for whichever unfortunate employee has been doomed to serve our table. We're nice kids, sometimes we have too much fun.

----big tips----

Tomorrow is rehearsal day for China Fox.
For now, we rest.

Iron Horse Coffee House

Hey, guys!

We're having a blast on the Shadow Sounds Tour! Last night marked the start as we kicked off the tour at the Independence Main Street Coffee House in Missouri. Tonight, we'll be rockin' the house at Iron Horse Coffee in Rogers, AR. [pictures to come]

After the gig last night, the fox crew decided to scour the streets of KC for sustenance with the forty dollars in tips we had so proudly earned. Heeding the advice of bassist, Jemila, we headed to the ever-so classy Sonic ("open late"). We proceeded to attack the Sonic employees with a round of bright blue tongue-dying drinks called Ocean Waters (sprite + coconut + blue ick) and so many different types of burgers that one of the employees had to leave their indoor speaker to receive a hand written list of all our orders.

Satisfied and our mouths stained bright blue, to hopped into our mini vans and headed south towards Ar-can-sauce. An hour into the trip we were all startled by the lightning filled sky ahead and soon were fighting against the torrential downpour and the wind that blew our car in and out of lanes. Only with the help of the endless music and Te'jah and Jemila's sudden outburst of their Mortal Kombat imitation did we survive (but really, thanks to Bill and Claudia who were driving!)

We arrived, battered and eyes half open around 2am and instantly invaded the next home we were going to be living in for the next 4 days. They sleepily pointed to sleeping bags and beds we could occupy, and high off of the early morning and fresh off the road we noisily got to bed. We would now like to thank all we disturbed who were sleeping peacefully in their beds until we arrived and not only woke them up, but took over their beds!

At this moment, we are sitting around in the very hip Iron Horse with free drinks and sandwiches :)

More updates soon and pictures.
